Lanzhou Jiaotong University (LZJTU) (formerly Lanzhou Railway Institute) was established in 1958 and located at Lanzhou---the capital of Gansu province in the northwest of China. In April 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Education and Gansu Provincial Government, Lanzhou Railway Institute was renamed as Lanzhou Jiaotong University.
After 58 years of construction and development, LZJTU has developed into a comprehensive university covering the fields as science, engineering, economics, management, and art. Ranked as one of the best comprehensive technical institutions in Gansu province,LZJTU has 21 schools and 4 postdoctoral research centers. The university now has 65 specialties for undergraduate studies, and it is entitled to confer master’s degrees in 105 programs and doctoral degrees in 34 programs.
LZJTU has 2,239 full-time employees, among which 1,569 are faculty members. There are 278 full professors, 550 associate professors, 320 doctoral recipients and 891 master's recipients among the teachers. The University's current enrolled over 22,505 full-time undergraduate students, 3,842 master’s and Ph.D. students and about 27,571 persons are taking adult education courses.
LZJTU possesses fixed assets of 1.55 billion yuan. The university, with its three campuses, covers an area of 257.8 acres, with a floor space of 764, 697 square meters. The Library houses a collection of 2.34 million volumes of print books.
LZJTU has established collaborative relations with many universities and research institutions in the world. Authorized in 2008 by the Ministry of Education to enroll international students on Chinese Government Scholarships, LZJTU now embraces over two hundred students from other parts of the world.
