Xi’an Jiaotong University is located in central Xi’an, which is the capital of the Shaanxi Providence in Northwest China. Transportation to the school is mainly by bus which is the most convenient means of transportation in Xi’an city.

About Xi’an Jiaotong University

It was founded in 1896 with the name Nanyang Public School. During this time, four schools were established: a regular school, a foreign studies school, a high school, and a middle school. The university underwent a series of transitions changing its name several times. It was given its current name in 1959. The school specializes in engineering, technology, and public health. It has three main branches; Xingqing, Ynata, and Qujiang.

Xi’an Jiaotong University consists of 20 schools which offer 74 undergraduate programs, 198 master programs, and 114 doctoral programs. Over the 120 year history, Xi’an Jiaotong University has set out principles and put devotion to learning. Xi’an Jiaotong University is one of the leading research-oriented schools in China. The university has a comprehensive research strategy which offers several research programs. Xi’an Jiaotong University has a faculty of more than 5,000 of which more than 2,500 are full-time faculty members, including over 1,500 professors and associate professors. There are 29 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. There are also six national-level teachers, 35 Young Investigator Award Laureates and 57 Changjiang Scholars. It has 32,000 full-time students of which about 15,500 are taking masters and doctorate programs. The University ratio between the faculty and students is well balanced; this means there is a full interaction between the students and teaching staff.

Extracurricular activities

The school offers a wide variety of activities other than academic activities. Some of these activities include sports like basketball, soccer, tennis, golf, roller skating, etc. The school also has a gym where students can participate in body building. Some other activities include belly dancing, Chinese martial arts, taekwondo, tai chi, yoga, and ultimate Frisbee. There are also other activities such as cultural weeks, challenge weekends and much more are offered to students that make their stay in the school enjoyable.

Recent news about the University

The University recently celebrated ten years since the opening at a special maritime ceremony. The university has grown rapidly over the past ten years. The university’s Quantum Optics Team of the School of Science recently made substantial progress in the Hybrid Quantum System Research. Best courses offered

The University offers an extensive range of courses. Some of the best majors the school offers are in: science, management, philosophy, economics, medicine, education, law, art and engineering. The most common inconvenience that severely affects international students is mostly associated with accommodation. Another inconvenience is that Xi’an city is a bit more remote compared to other cities like Shanghai and Beijing which mean there is less opportunity for future for development.
