In the world we live in, startup companies pop up more frequently than they ever have before. Thanks to sites like Kickstarter and IndieGoGo, pretty much anyone with any idea whatsoever can come out on the scene with an idea and build a company based off of that idea. This method has proven a great success for businesses such as Pebble, but that isn’t always the case with these young startups. Building a company from the ground up is a tremendously daunting task. Having an idea for a product or service is great, but the actual process of turning that idea into something tangible is much easier said than done. There are the basic legal actions you have to take, financial tasks, etc., but that all has to do with the initial setup. How do you go about building a company that lasts longer than just a few short months? Or even years? Today, we are going to take a look at three basic principles that will help your company develop a long, healthy life cycle.

Today, the age of all things digital is in full swing. Everywhere you look, more and more business is being conducted online, and virtually all communication is handled through the power of the internet. When you have a business, building a company website is one of the most crucial steps to ensuring that your brand sees some amount of success. While this may seem like a no-brainer, we can’t stress enough how important a company website is. Your website acts as the main hub for your business for the entire digital world. You have access to an audience of literally billions of people, so when creating your site, you need to make sure that it’s functional, easy to navigate, and looks gorgeous at the same time. The appearance of your site can make or break your company, so you really can’t afford to do any slacking here.

A Facebook page goes hand-in-hand with your site and can act as a means to attract even more visitor and potential customers. Having both of these things established for your company will ensure that you have all of the proper means of communication set up for your audience, and will solidify you in the digital world we now live in.
Principle 2 – Establish who you are Through Your Brand
Despite what some may tell you, your brand is one of the greatest assets your company will have. Establishing your brand is essentially you establishing what your company is and what it stands for. This is where you’ll determine the core values of your business, incorporate your culture into its blood, and make it clear what your beliefs and goals are. Startups today are a dime a dozen, and many of them are creating slightly different variations of products or services that already exist. Even if that may be the case for your company, the best way to make yourself stand out is through your brand. This does require a lot of work on your part, but the result is always well worth the effort that was put into it. Identifying and exemplifying your uniqueness is about one of the most important things you can do for your company, so this should not be taken lightly at all.

With all of the technology that’s used in today’s digital age, it’s important not to lose track of what really matters at the end of the day – people. Whether we’re talking about employees or customers of yours, people are the primary driving factor as to whether your business will fail or succeed. To ensure this happens, you need to take care properly of your employees, be personable with your clients, have readily available and fast communication for both parties, and make each group aware that their concerns are your top priority. People want to know that you care and that you’re ready to listen to what they have to say. Being open to this prospect will go a long way to the success of your company.
Although that’s not all you have to do to when building a company that will last, they are three of the most important things to keep in mind. The digital world, your brand, and putting people first will all lead you down the road of success. That’s not to say you won’t encounter a few bumps here and there, but it will definitely put you on the right track. As we mentioned at the beginning of this article, building a company from the ground up, and making sure it lasts no less, is perhaps one of the most challenging tasks you will ever take up. It will require a great deal of time, money, and talent, but following the principles we’ve talked about today will help to make certain that all of those assets don’t go to waste.
